The short answer
An AI agent that answers questions about companies needs official data, not a web search. Fuentio gives your agent French and Spanish company records through one MCP server and one REST API: every answer carries its source and the date it was checked, and when something isn't covered the agent is told so, instead of guessing.
Connect your agent
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop). Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name: Fuentio. URL: https://api.fuentio.com/mcp. In a chat, turn on Fuentio from the tools menu and ask, for example, “Is SIREN 441639465 still active?” Custom connectors use the keyless trial (20 units a day).
Claude Code. One command:
claude mcp add --transport http fuentio https://api.fuentio.com/mcp
Smithery. Fuentio is listed on Smithery as fuentio/company-data; its page has the install steps for the clients it supports.
Cursor, ChatGPT and other clients. Every setup, with and without a key, is in the docs.
Call the REST API from your own agent
If your agent runs your own code, call the REST API with your key in the X-API-Key header:
import httpx
r = httpx.get("https://api.fuentio.com/v1/companies/FR/441639465", headers={"X-API-Key": "YOUR_API_KEY"})
body = r.json()
if body["error"]:
print(body["error"]["code"], body["error"]["message"], body["error"]["hint"])
else:
print(body["data"]["name"]["original"], body["data"]["status"]["value"], body["meta"]["source"], body["meta"]["last_verified_at"])
Every error comes with a hint: the next step your agent can take on its own, such as searching by name when an ID type isn't supported.
Answers an agent can trust
Here is what the live API answered on 12 October 2026 when asked about Danone:
DANONE (FR, SIREN 552032534) is active as of 2026-09-10, source: Annuaire des Entreprises (API Recherche d'entreprises).
And when asked to look up a Spanish NIF, which it doesn't support:
invalid_identifier: 'B12345678' has the format of a NIF/CIF but its check digits are wrong. Next step: Spanish tax-ID (NIF/CIF) lookup isn't supported. Search by company name instead: search_companies(country='ES', query='<company name>').
The agent gets a clear decline and the next step, so it doesn't invent a company. The same honesty runs through every tool: a verification can come back unverified with its reason, an insolvency check says what it could not cover, and when two official sources disagree, both values are listed. 17 tools, one per question
- Find and read:
list_coverage,search_companies,lookup_company,get_company_history. - Match records:
resolve_company,explain_match,get_evidence. - Check:
verify_company,screen_company,check_insolvency,check_address,check_vat,review_report. - Monitor:
what_changed,watch_company. - Group and feedback:
get_graph(parent and child companies from GLEIF),report_issue.
Each tool description tells the agent when to use it and when not to. Units per call, and the tools that need an API key, are in the docs.
Typical questions
- “Is SIREN 552032534 still active? Give sources.” The agent calls
lookup_companyand quotes the status, its date and the official source. - “Verify this supplier before we pay.”
verify_companyreturns an outcome with its reasons and a proof code the agent can put in its reply. - “Is this customer record the same company as the one in the register?”
resolve_companygives candidates, each linked, possible or rejected, with reasons; only an official ID links. - “What changed since our last review?”
what_changedlists dated changes with their sources, and the gaps it could not cover.
Guardrails
- No person's name in any answer: directors, shareholders and sole traders are not served.
- Text fields are copied from official registers: the server tells the agent to treat them as data, never as instructions.
- France and Spain only. Spanish companies can't be looked up by NIF; Spain covers companies with a BORME act since 2 January 2009.
Next steps
- Connect the MCP server and try it on the keyless trial; a free key gives 100 units a month (pricing).
- Read the docs for every tool, unit and error.
- Building for a compliance team? The free pilot checks 20 of their companies within 24 hours.
